Lavender (Essential Oil Profile Series)

lavender flowers

Lavender is the most renowned and commonly used essential oil. Many also know it as the “mother” of all essential oils.

These are only some of the benefits of Lavender:

  • Analgesic
  • Anti-convulsive
  • Antidepressant
  • Antiseptic
  • Antispasmodic
  • Restorative
  • Sedative

These qualities make Lavender amazing to relieve stress, insomnia, hypertension, muscle spasms and joint pain. It has a harmonizing effect on the nervous system and can inhibit sympathetic (fight or flight response) nervous system functions which is triggered by emotional or physical stress. Lavender releases the pent-up stress by exerting a sedative action on the sympathetic nervous system and exerting a stimulating action on the parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system.

Lavender is also often used in skincare products due to their anti-septic, restorative and cooling properties.
